THERAPEUTIC YOGA

In this class, you will learn the basics and fundamental of the asanas (poses) while learning correct alignment, breathwork, relaxation and use of props.  We will explore each pose individually and learn the proper alignment and correct breathing while developing strength, flexibility and balance in a supportive environment.  This class is designed for those that are brand new to yoga, yet experienced students may attend to reinforce the basics and learn foundation and alignment principles. This class is 1 hour in length.

YOGA BASICS

Don’t know anything about yoga? Looking to refine your existing practice? Recovering from an injury? This class is for you. You will be guided through the classic Yoga postures with emphasis on aligning your body to help open places that feel tight, and breathing practices to increase your energy and stamina. All levels welcome.

RESTORATIVE YOGA

Let stress and tension melt away and connect with a deep sense of peace and relaxation.Restorative Yoga is a gentle healing form of Hatha yoga that is practiced with props to provide a supportive environment for total relaxation.Only 5-6 Restorative poses are practiced per class. These gentle poses create physiological responses which are beneficial to your health and can reduce the effects of stress-related illness. The class is slow, deeply nurturing and suitable for all ages – particularly those with chronic pain or limitations. Learn yogic breathing and meditation techniques as you practice gentle restorative Hatha poses while your body is supported with bolsters and blankets. Experience deep relaxation as you stimulate the body to move toward balance, Activate healing from stress of daily activities, major life events, injuries, chronic stress, fatigue, or illness, and discover poses that you can integrate into your daily routine.

MINDFUL FLOW (All Levels)

This class is centered around deep breathing and working with each student’s needs, as well as the collective needs of the group. Mindful Flow takes into account any injuries or pre-existing conditions the student shows up with. The pace of the class is set by deep, fluid breathing which is taught at the beginning of each class. From there, we move with the breath through standing poses and balance poses to build strength. Next, we move to the floor for poses to release stress and tension from the body. This is a balanced practice that will leave you feeling better than when you walked into class.

QI GONG

Qigong is roughly translated as “energy cultivation”. It is a broad term that describes the multitude of practices that originated in China designed to increase the flow of the body’s internal energy. Using a combination of fluid and static postures, these simple yet profound exercises can lead one to greater vitality and well-being.

VINYASA FLOW

Vinyasa classes focus on flowing from pose to pose and linking the movement with the breath. These classes are used to build endurance, stamina, strength, and flexibility, while calming the mind.

POWER YOGA

Based on the Ashtanga Vinyasa system of Hatha Yoga; Power Yoga is a vigorous workout with emphasis on core strength, breath control and flexibility. This class is a more advanced version of vinyasa and offers the opportunity for students to take their practice to a more advanced level with arm balances and inversions. Modifications are offered.

YIN YOGA

Bring balance to an active (yang) yoga practice and busy lifestyle with this gentle yet intense practice. Yin yoga uses floor poses (held 2-5 minutes) in combination with breath awareness and meditation to reach beneath the superficial muscles, restoring and stretching the body’s deep connective tissue. This style of yoga lends itself to deep introspection, bringing the mind into stillness and opening areas of the body that are not accessible in yang styles of yoga (vinyasa, power, flow, etc.). Create a well-rounded, complete yoga practice by balancing yang with yin!

RADIANT YOGA

Radiant Yoga can be practiced by students of all levels of yoga. The subtle movements are easy for beginners to understand, and also wonderful for more advanced practitioners to bring a deeper awareness of the body’s movements in the poses. The class focuses on the inner experience of yoga. More emphasis is put on slow and deliberate movements with the breath to help bring awareness to muscle groups and structural alignment.

Mebbie is currently attending Kristine Kaoverii Weber’s 500 hour Subtle Yoga® training at Blue Ridge Yoga Studio. She feels that the combination of her trainings plus her many years of experience give her a distinct perspective on how yoga can be used to enhance our daily lives. Whether you are new to yoga or have been practicing for years, Radiant Yoga will help you bring more of your life to the mat and more of the mat to your life.
