This is a great class for all levels, focusing on opening the body and creating space.


Patty Dougherty moved back to Knoxville in 2010 after spending 10 years in Los Angeles studying and practicing yoga and yogic philosophy. A 2009 graduate of Cloud Nine Yoga in California, her specialties include Gentle Yoga and Restorative Yoga. Patty studied anatomy and Yoga Basics under Simone Market, a student of Erich Shiffmann, and Iyengar Yoga with Michael Rucculo of Life Yoga Center both in Hermosa Beach, California. Patty is certified in Restorative Yoga with Jillian Pransky, Director of Restorative Yoga with Yoga Works.

She is as gentle and kind in the classroom as she learned to be with herself and her own body. Patty’s goal is to help open the body and find space to breathe and to move – enabling the opportunity for radiant physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

This class series are for students who already have some experience under their belt. We dive deeper into the Acro practice playing with low foot to hand, pops, turns and twists, dynamic movements and washing machines.  Class is co-taught assisted by Frank Genovise.

Prerequisites include*: Hands-free Bird mount; Hands free bird presses; Cartwheel in to straddle bat; Hop to Star. We’re pleased to welcome Rebekah Luhrs back to Breezeway for intermediate and beginner AcroYoga classes. 

For Rebekah, teaching and practicing yoga is a lifestyle. As an individual, it is a way for her to push herself to grow both physically and spiritually. Based on a foundation of trust, communication, and support, the practice of AcroYoga empowers positive growth in individuals, relationships, and communities in the most fundamental ways. Ultimately this growth is what she is passionate about.

Rebekah has been practicing yoga for almost ten years and completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification Training at the Asheville Yoga Center in North Carolina. She has been practicing AcroYoga since 2011 and is a certified instructor through AcroYoga International. After several years of teaching both in the US and internationally, she is excited to be offering weekly acro classes in Knoxville. Frank Genovise co-teaches most classes. 

AcroYoga is a dynamic partner practice that blends the wisdom of yoga, the dynamic power of acrobatics, and the loving kindness of healing arts.  New content is explored each week while reviewing components taught in previous classes and workshops. Restorative with Siobhan McAuley

Deep rest is one of the most important elements needed for us to create lasting peace, happiness and healing. When the body is unable to rest long enough and with sufficient depth so that the parasympathetic nervous system is activated, the bodies natural healing capacity never gets ‘turned on’.

In this class, students will learn how to practice deep rest offering a more sustained internal peace than a good nights sleep or a massage. Through consistent practice the body will learn to respond more readily while reducing the constant busyness of the mind. This produces a lasting internally sourced experience of peace, happiness and freedom while nourishing the body’s ability to heal itself.


Siobhan McAuley

Siobhan McAuley is the founder of The Meaning Maker Movement and the creator of The Process, a conceptual framework that teaches us how to access an internally sourced experience of happiness. Through the lens of The Process, students learn how to develop a daily practice not as something they must do but as a way of experiencing the truth of who they are. Alignment Yoga – Level 2 with Ron Felix @ Breezeway Yoga Studio

This class is an upper level class so you have already earned your stripes by being in several series of an alignment style (like Iyengar ) yoga at Level 1. This class builds on that beginner’s level, refines it with more advanced poses and introduces you to a theme type practice. A theme could be a class focusing on back bends or forward bends etc. In addition you will be working on an inversion practice as your knowledge and experience as a beginner has taught you what not to do as compared to what you can do.

This class is taught in an 8-week series but drop-ins @ $15/class will be allowed with permission from the teacher.

Thinking about trying power yoga but not sure what it’s all about? Start here with this ‘Introduction to Power Yoga’ class. Learn the basics of Vinyasa (flow), practice foundational poses, develop strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance. While this is an introduction to Power Yoga, it will be moderately challenging so be prepared to sweat and get your heart rate up while getting a full-body workout.

Laura began practicing yoga in 2015 as a way to relieve stress and add a new form of physical activity to her routine.  She was hooked immediately and it wasn’t long before she sensed that yoga was going to be a transformative power in her life.  She’s been truly amazed by the many benefits that yoga has provided in her life including a more positive self-image, self-compassion, confidence, physical and emotional strength, and an openness to embrace life.  She felt a calling to share the gift of yoga with others and completed her 200-RYT training in 2018 with Kim Lomonoco at The Glowing Body in Knoxville, TN.  She enjoys practicing and teaching power flow, Yin, and gentle yoga.

If we’re too stressed, then we learn to relax more.  If we’re too prone to multi-tasking, then we learn to focus the attention. If we’re too tight, we get more flexible. Power Vinyasa with Stephanie Soldano @ Breezeway Yoga Studio

Power Vinyasa

This 60 minute Power Vinyasa flows through foundational poses to strengthen the body and the mind. Connecting the breath with movement and intention. Currently, her passion in the physical Asana practice lies in Flow, Power Flow, and Vinyasa Flow. However, as she continues her education she plans to diversify her guidance. Aroma Yin with Mary June Thompson @ Breezeway Yoga Studio

As a classically-trained flutist who performs with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, her first outlet for her teaching passion was music.  She is thrilled to now include yoga to her teaching repertoire after completing her 200-hour RYT certification in August 2011.  By the fall of 2013, she had already logged over 1,000 teaching hours, which made her eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 200 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher).  She also holds a Bachelor of Music in flute performance from Northwestern University and a Master of Music from the University of Tennessee.

Having never been a fitness buff, Jill stepped into her first yoga class in 2002, and it was love at first sight.  Over the years that she has practiced, she is continually amazed at the benefits yoga has brought to her life – physical fitness, better posture, mental clarity, self-confidence, increased flexibility on and off the mat, and a general sense of peace and gratitude.

Professional musical performance employs controlled breath, body awareness, energy, creativity, rhythmic flow, and harmony — all qualities of a successful yoga practice.  Jill draws upon these elements in her classes, helping her students to feel in tune with their bodies and spirit, and those around them.  She professes to have “yoga ADHD” and constantly seeks new ways to experience poses and offer them to her students in a dynamic, playful way.

Jay Dee Clayton

JD has practiced yoga since 1998.  He has lived internationally in Australia and China and experienced several different styles of yoga during the 12+ years that he lived outside of the US. JD recently finished his Yoga teacher training and received his RYT certification in September of 2017.

His teacher training was focused on breath centered yoga, and also included meditative study and practice to further develop skills in the delivery of effective yoga instruction. He will offer a Gentle Yoga class at Breezeway and JD hopes to soon add other class offerings that are currently under development. Stay Tuned…

 


Jesse Williams, RYT200

Jesse teaches a breath centric yoga class that focuses on re-balancing the body. He uses dynamic (moving) yoga poses to help the body regain symmetry.

As Jesse went through his yoga training he became passionate about how breath and movement work together to bring harmony and healing to the body. He continues to study the Viniyoga teachings handed down from Krishnamacharya through his son Desikachar and to Gary Kraftsow and other teachers. Jesse is happy to work in class and individually to allow students to fully experience the transformational aspects of yoga.

It was clear from an early age that Jennie and yoga were destined for one another. A youth gymnast, she also dabbled in various forms of dance and eventually, in 1993, found a local yoga studio in town and took her first class. She instantly fell in love and over the 20 plus years that followed has continued to explore various types of yoga styles and teachers around the world.

Jennie’s training is rooted in classic Ashtanga yet she’s not very traditional when it comes to yoga, or life for that matter. ? She adores stirring her own blend of colors into every class and sees each practice as a blank canvas with the opportunity to paint any picture you want. This is, after all, your practice. She has a deep passion for animals, music, health and nutrition, and wants nothing more than to share her love of yoga with others.

RESTORATIVE YIN YOGA with Becky Maze, RYT-500

Restorative Yin yoga is a passive series of poses held for 3-5 minutes each. These poses target the deep connective tissues of the body and the fascia that cover the body to help regulate the flow of energy in the body. It is unique in that you relax in the posture. You soften and it can be meditative. Some benefits:

  • calms the mind
  • regulates energy
  • increases mobility, especially joints, connective tissue/flexibility
  • lowers stress/relaxation
  • greater stamina
  • lubricates joints
  • helps TMJ/migraines
  • aids in Yang practices (flow/vinyasa, etc)
  • teaches you to listen to your body

Practice both Yin/Yang (other types of Yoga) for balance.

Becky Maze is a Knoxville native and has shown an interest in yoga since her college days. She is also a Dental Hygienist and holds a B.S. in Health Education. Her desire to know yoga’s balance intensified in 2005 as her life changed and growing pains ensued. She studied yoga under Asheville’s Cindy Dollar (Iyengar Method) at the Glowing Body and she claims Patty Dougherty to be one of her most precious mentors. She has a love for vinyasa and yin and is a Reiki Master. Her personal yoga journey has brought her into a more balanced lifestyle, which she delights in sharing with others through teaching.

Jennie Berger, RYT 200

It was clear from an early age that Jennie and yoga were destined for one another. A youth gymnast, she also dabbled in various forms of dance and eventually, in 1993, found a local yoga studio in town and took her first class. She instantly fell in love and over the 20 plus years that followed has continued to explore various types of yoga styles and teachers around the world.

Jennie’s training is rooted in classic Ashtanga yet she’s not very traditional when it comes to yoga, or life for that matter. 😉 She adores stirring her own blend of colors into every class and sees each practice as a blank canvas with the opportunity to paint any picture you want. This is, after all, your practice. She has a deep passion for animals, music, health and nutrition, and wants nothing more than to share her love of yoga with others.
