Alignment Yoga – Level 2 with Ron Felix @ Breezeway Yoga Studio
Jan 16 @ 7:00 pm – 8:15 pm

This class is an upper level class so you have already earned your stripes by being in several series of an alignment style (like Iyengar ) yoga at Level 1. This class builds on that beginner’s level, refines it with more advanced poses and introduces you to a theme type practice. A theme could be a class focusing on back bends or forward bends etc. In addition you will be working on an inversion practice as your knowledge and experience as a beginner has taught you what not to do as compared to what you can do.

This class is taught in an 8-week series but drop-ins @ $15/class will be allowed with permission from the teacher.

Mindful Yoga with Judson @ Breezeway Yoga Studio
Jan 17 @ 5:45 pm – 7:15 pm

Mindful Yoga with Judson Nichols moves to Breezeway Yoga Studio

judson_garden-namasteThe focus of Mindful Yoga is to bring the mind back into the body. Generally, our attention is scattered all over: the past, the future, other places.  In our practice, we bring our mental focus back to the body. We search our body for stress and tension with our mind’s eye, and then we practice letting it go. Along the way, we also become stronger, more flexible, and more at peace.

Call or text questions to 865-963-6042.

About Judson:

Judson Nichols enjoys tailoring his classes around his students’ specific needs. Every body is different, and each has its own path back to a state of balance. Since he began teaching yoga in Knoxville in 2008, the emphasis of his teaching has been to guide each student toward a happy medium. If we’re too stressed, then we learn to relax more.  If we’re too prone to multi-tasking, then we learn to focus the attention. If we’re too tight, we get more flexible. If we’re too flexible, then we stabilize the joints.  It’s all about bringing conscious choices and awareness to your life to give you more freedom to be who you need to be.

When he’s not teaching yoga, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their small herd of cats. His other work involves writing custom software to help businesses become more efficient.

You can email him at judson@judsonnichols.com.  His website is http://judsonnichols.com/yoga.

Power Yoga with Jill Bartine @ Breezeway Yoga Studio
Jan 19 @ 9:00 am – 10:15 am

Jill Bartine, M.M., RYT

JillB_headshotJill Bartine has been a teacher for more than half her life. As a classically-trained flutist who performs with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, her first outlet for her teaching passion was music.  She is thrilled to now include yoga to her teaching repertoire after completing her 200-hour RYT certification in August 2011.  By the fall of 2013, she had already logged over 1,000 teaching hours, which made her eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 200 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher).  She also holds a Bachelor of Music in flute performance from Northwestern University and a Master of Music from the University of Tennessee.

Having never been a fitness buff, Jill stepped into her first yoga class in 2002, and it was love at first sight.  Over the years that she has practiced, she is continually amazed at the benefits yoga has brought to her life – physical fitness, better posture, mental clarity, self-confidence, increased flexibility on and off the mat, and a general sense of peace and gratitude.

Professional musical performance employs controlled breath, body awareness, energy, creativity, rhythmic flow, and harmony — all qualities of a successful yoga practice.  Jill draws upon these elements in her classes, helping her students to feel in tune with their bodies and spirit, and those around them.  She professes to have “yoga ADHD” and constantly seeks new ways to experience poses and offer them to her students in a dynamic, playful way.

Jill teaches power and vinyasa group classes at multiple studios in Knoxville and also enjoys teaching private sessions for individuals and small groups. Connect with Jill via email:  flutistyogini@gmail.com ,  facebook.com/flutistyogini,

Jennie Berger, RYT 200

It was clear from an early age that Jennie and yoga were destined for one another. A youth gymnast, she also dabbled in various forms of dance and eventually, in 1993, found a local yoga studio in town and took her first class. Jennie’s training is rooted in classic Ashtanga yet she’s not very traditional when it comes to yoga, or life for that matter. 😉 She adores stirring her own blend of colors into every class and sees each practice as a blank canvas with the opportunity to paint any picture you want. This is, after all, your practice. She has a deep passion for animals, music, health and nutrition, and wants nothing more than to share her love of yoga with others.

Contemplative Movement Series — Theory and Practice with Siobhan McAuley @ Breezeway Yoga Studio
Jan 20 @ 12:00 pm – 1:15 pm

Process-Based Contemplative Movement

In these classes students will learn The Process which is a framework that will help achieve deep, lasting peace and an internally sourced experience of happiness, regardless of circumstances or situation. The aim is to fully embody our experience of practice through The Process combining theory, contemplation and action so we can learn to be fully present in our bodies as they are. Students are encouraged to enroll in both Contemplative Movement classes for a complete and thorough experience.

Contemplative Movement – Theory & Practice

This class introduces students to The Process framework that we use to understand how the body communicates to us and through us. Each class is like a workshop and begins with a teaching followed by deep rest and seated meditation.

In order for our bodies to utilize their innate healing capacities we must first learn to dismantle our chronic states of heightened anxiety, tension and a lack of focus that typify modern life. Once a deep state of relaxation is present we can begin to access the parasympathetic nervous system which is needed for lasting healing to take place while cultivating a stillness of mind that we can carry with us into  our daily lives.

All are welcome. No movement or yoga experience is required, only an open mind and a willingness to learn, grow and heal from within.
*Students may wish to enroll in both Contemplative Movement classes for a complete & thorough experience of the practice.

Siobhan McAuley

Siobhan McAuley is a teacher, writer and the founder of The Meaning Maker Movement. Teaching since 1998, her aim is to help students experience the consciousness that is witness to who we believe ourselves to be so we can expand beyond the limitations of the false self and experience lasting ease, joy and fulfillment in our bodies and our lives.

1:30 – 3PM Practice

In this class we build on the theory of The Process and learn how to apply it through the use of movement as a means to explore how the busyness of the mind drives our perception of ourselves and our lives. How we show up for practice is how we show up for our life. Through this contemplative approach to practice we begin to see ourselves and the world around us more clearly as we nurture the well spring of vitality that is always present within us.

No experience is required, however students will benefit from taking the Theory and Practice class first as an introduction to The Process. To learn more about The Process visit The Meaning Maker Movement.

Restorative Yin Yoga with Becky Jones, RYT-500 @ Breezeway Yoga Studio
Jan 20 @ 5:30 pm – 6:15 pm

RESTORATIVE YIN YOGA with Becky Jones, RYT-500

Restorative Yin yoga is a passive series of poses held for 3-5 minutes each. These poses target the deep connective tissues of the body and the fascia that cover the body to help regulate the flow of energy in the body. It is unique in that you relax in the posture. You soften and it can be meditative. Some benefits:

  • calms the mind
  • regulates energy
  • increases mobility, especially joints, connective tissue/flexibility
  • lowers stress/relaxation
  • greater stamina
  • lubricates joints
  • helps TMJ/migraines
  • aids in Yang practices (flow/vinyasa, etc)
  • teaches you to listen to your body

Practice both Yin/Yang (other types of Yoga) for balance.

“ I never liked Sunday evenings… weekend over, dreaded Monday morning looming… but some time ago, I discovered Becky’s Yin class and now I have something to look forward to at the close of the weekend. Becky’s classes are never repetitive… she expertly guides her yogis through a different series of yin poses each week, accompanied by soft eclectic music that really enhances the relaxing and soothing experience in mind and body. This class is a wonderful way to begin your week.”

“Becky’s classes always have a nice flow and I leave feeling relaxed and restored for my week ahead. She is a great and caring yoga teacher!”

“ Becky takes the student through a series of stretches that are held for longer periods of time.  She pairs the stretches with music which helps me to focus on the stretch.  At the end of a session, I feel both stretched and relaxed at the same time.”

Becky Jones is a Knoxville native and has shown an interest in yoga since her college days. She is also a Dental Hygienist and holds a B.S. in Health Education. Her desire to know yoga’s balance intensified in 2005 as her life changed and growing pains ensued. She studied yoga under Asheville’s Cindy Dollar (Iyengar Method) at the Glowing Body and she claims Patty Dougherty to be one of her most precious mentors. She has a love for vinyasa and yin and is a Reiki Master. Her personal yoga journey has brought her into a more balanced lifestyle, which she delights in sharing with others through teaching.
